Olympic security checkpoints cause Beijing traffic chaos
Updated
New security checkpoints set up around Beijing ahead of next month's Olympic Games are causing massive traffic jams.
The official Xinhua newsagency reports hundreds of checkpoints have been installed on expressways and highways leading into the capital under the "Three Lines of Defence" security programme.
The checkpoints are being manned by armed police and sniffer dogs.
Businessman Huang Jia Qiang has told Chinese television there've been long queues of cars this week.
"Because of the Olympic Games everyday I have to spend at least two or three hours to through the Olympic check point in order to get into the city," he said.
"I think for me, it is very, very unpleasant Olympic experience."
