FPolynesia to sell fuel to Cook Islands
Updated
The French Polynesian government has agreed to sell some of its fuel and diesel to Cook Islands.
The Cook Islands foreign minister, Wilkie Rasmussen, has told the Pacific News service 16,000 litres will be sent to the northern island groups where it is most needed - not to the main island Rarotonga.
He says buying the fuel from Tahiti will see the price drop from around $US2.00 to approximately 50 cents a litre.
Mr Rasmussen says the deal will also benefit the private sector.
The ship, Tahiti Nui, will deliver the fuel in 10 days.
