UN launches appeal to aid China quake relief efforts
Updated
The United Nations has launched a $US33.5 million appeal to aid earthquake relief efforts in southwest China.
The quake that hit Sichuan and neighbouring Gansu and Shaanxi provinces on May 12 killed almost 70,000 people and destroyed millions of homes and other buildings.
The UN says the appeal will address the needs of the poor and vulnerable among the millions of people affected.
The UN has already provided more than $US17 million in emergency aid.
