Former police chief wins Bali's first direct election

A former police chief, who led investigations into the 2002 Bali bombings, has won the Indonesian island's first direct election for governor.
Electoral officials say I Made Mangku Pastika secured 55 per cent of the vote ahead of two rival teams in polls held last week.
Correspondents say the result is further evidence of the strength of former president Megawati Sukarnoputri's party, the PDI-P, which backed General Pastika, ahead of national elections in April.
