International battleships prepares for Australian wargames
Updated
The Australian defence department says international battleships are entering the waters in Australia's north in preparation for major maritime war games next week.
The Australian Defence Force is hosting the offshore simulated war exercise Kakadu IX off Darwin.
Australian naval commander Charles Huxtable says representatives from navies and airforces from ten Asian Pacific countries are gathering for the event.
"We have ships from Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Japan and Thailand taking part plus observers from India, the Phillipines, Vietnam Indonesia and South Korea so its a much larger exercise," he said.
"So there'll be approximately twelve or thirteeen ships taking part in that."
