Rebel forces gradually collapsing: Sri Lankan army chief
Updated
Sri Lanka's army chief says his forces have wiped out two-thirds of the Tamil Tigers' military capability, and the decades-old conflict with the rebels is at its tail-end.
Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka has told a state run newspaper that the capability of the Tamil Tigers has depleted to a large extent, and will gradually start collapsing.
He says security forces have already advanced 40 kilometres into rebel-controlled territories in the north during the latest military offensive that began in 2006.
