Confirmation three killed in military crash off Guam
Updated
At least three crew members from a United States B-52 bomber have been confirmed dead after the aircraft crashed off the coast of Guam on Monday.
The aircraft had been scheduled to take part in a fly-past on Monday as part of the island's Liberation Day commemoration, but it crashed into the sea about 50 kilometres from Apra Harbour.
A large-scale search and rescue operation is underway for the remaining three members of the six-man crew.
A reporter with TV station KUAM on Guam, Clint Ridgell, has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program the crash isn't the first incident involving an airforce plane:
"There have been quite a few accidents on Guam over the past year actually, involving airplanes," he said.
"There's been quite a few crashes on Guam and near Guam and off the waters of Guam, and maybe the quick response could have been because of that, because I know they do practice for these things because of the increased military activity out here."
