UN envoy in Burma to assess cyclone relief efforts
Updated
The United Nations chief humanitarian envoy, John Holmes, has begun a three-day visit to Burma to assess how the country is coping in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis.
The cyclone hit Burma in early May, killing thousands of people and devastating large areas of the Irrawaddy Delta.
After a tour of the affected region, Mr Holmes is due to hold talks with government officials in the capital Naypyidaw.
It is the envoy's second visit to Burma since the cyclone struck.
Earlier this week, the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) released a report saying that the relief and reconstruction effort in Burma will cost $US1 billion over the next three years.
