China to allow limited Olympic protests
Updated
Protests will be allowed at the Beijing Olympics, but only in designated areas.
According to Beijing's Olympic organisers, three of the city's parks have been designated as special protest areas.
But the head of Olympic security didn't say whether protests could be spontaneous or must be approved.
While speaking at a press conference in Beijing, Liu Shaowu, was asked if foreigners as well as Chinese citizens would be allowed to protest. But he said he didn't know.
China's human rights record and its handling of Tibet are two areas which could be the subject of demonstrations if they are permitted.
