The calls for the former Australian Treasurer, Peter Costello to return to the Opposition front bench are growing louder.

Our reporter Louise Yaxley says Mr Costello has not decided if he will remain in parliament or retire.

Opposition frontbencher, Tony Abbott says Mr Costello would be a welcome addition to the frontbench if he stays.

"I think it's good that Peter's still there I think it would be good if he came back. But in the end its his call."

Another frontbencher, Greg Hunt, agrees its up to Mr Costello to decide his future - but Mr Hunt has high praise for the former Treasurer, describing him as an outstanding talent and a giant of liberalism and australian politics.

But Mr Hunt has told the ABC's insiders he doesn't see a leadership change.

"Brendan's going to take us to the election."

The Coalition has a two day meeting in Canberra this week with climate change policy one of the main issues.
