Australian PM disappointed in trade talks collapse
Updated
The Australian prime minister, Kevin Rudd, has spoken to the head of the World Trade Organisation Pascal Lamy about the collapse of negotiations in the Doha round of trade talks.
The talks in Geneva failed due to a lack of agreement on protection for farmers in developing countries.
Despite nine days of talks, the high level summit broke down when the United States, China and India failed to compromise on farm import rules.
Mr Rudd says he's disappointed, but remains confident.
"At a technical level it's possible to reach a deal on this, we still have a long way to go in terms of the possibility of getting there but it is very important for global leaders at this stage to continue to exhibit political will to get to that point," he said.
