Cruise ship passengers hurt in storm off NZ
Updated
About 40 passengers on board a cruise ship have been hurt after the vessel rolled sharply in a severe storm off the New Zealand coast.
P&O Cruises says the Pacific Sun was about 600 kilometres north of Auckland when it was hit by seven metre swells and 50 knot winds.
"Approximately 40 passengers were seen and treated by the onboard medical staff," P&O Cruises said in a statement.
It did not detail the extent of their injuries.
The ship, carrying more than 1,700 passengers and almost 700 crew, is returning to Auckland from an eight-day cruise in the South Pacific.
