Updated
The new UN Human Rights rapporteur for Burma, Tomas Ojea Quintana, will conduct his first mission next week after getting the go-ahead from the military junta.
The UN says Mr Quintana wanted to meet "state officials and heads of state institutions, as well as with representatives of ethnic groups, political parties, religious groups, civil society, NGOs and members of the human rights body.
He has also requested to visit Rangoon and areas affected by cyclone Nargis.
Cyclone Nargis swept through Burma's southwestern delta region in May leaving 138,000 people dead or missing and a further 2.4 million in need of help.
