Olympic President praises media access in Beijing
Updated
The president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, says he believes that the media access the Chinese government is allowing is unprecedented for the country.
He denied ever striking a deal with Beijing organisers to censor internet sites for journalists.
John Taylor reports from Beijing China faced severe criticism last week after it announced that visiting international media would not have unfettered access to the Internet.
It quickly backflipped, but not before concerns were raised that the International Olympic Committee had done a deal to allow censorship.
IOC president Jacque Rogge last night told reporters "There was no deal whatsoever."
The IOC and the Beijing Organising Committee have created a working group to examine which remaining censored websites can be unblocked.
However, the freedom to view sites like Amnesty International has not been extended to ordinary Chinese.
