Cadel Evans an almost certain starter for Games
Updated
Australian cyclist Cadel Evans has been declared an almost certain starter for the Olympic Road Race as he continues to recover from an injured knee.
After finishing second in last month's Tour de France, Evans injured his knee when he slipped at a post-race function.
It was initially feared he would miss the Games but his knee has responded well to treatment, prompting Olympic officials to declare him an almost certain starter for the Road Race.
AOC President John Coates says it's hoped Evans will also compete in the Time Trial, using a wildcard entry.
Coates says Evans will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness.
Evans is due to arrive in China early this week.
