Beijing Games protestors must give five days notice
Updated
People who want to protest during the Olympic Games should seek permission five days ahead of their actions, according to the Chinese Government.
Three parks have been set aside in Beijing as designated "protest" venues during the Olympics.
However these sites can only be used for officially sanctioned demonstrations.
The Chinese Government has announced that permission must be sought five days before any planned protest action.
Olympic Security Chief Liu Shaowu made the announcement as part of an official statement on-line outlining guidelines for protests during the Games.
Would-be demonstrators must take their application to the police personally and foreigners must apply in Chinese.
Liu said that protests "must not harm national, social and collective interests" or they would not be allowed.
