Guam investigates possible radiation contamination
Updated
Guam government officials have tried to allay fears after the discovery of possible radioactive contamination to Guam waters.
Guam Pacific Daily News reports Governor Felix Camacho has addressed reports of a valve leak aboard the USS Houston, a fast-attack nuclear-powered submarine, which is home-ported on Guam.
The leak was discovered on July 24, while the vessel was dry-docked in Honolulu.
Navy officials have acknowledged the possibility that the leak could have caused the release of water containing radioactive materials in Guam, when the submarine was there in May and June.
An investigation is underway, with water samples from Guam now being tested.
Results will be released on Tuesday.
