Australia reportedly joins investigation of Colombia's FARC rebels

Australian authorities are reported to have joined a global investigation into the international links of Colombia's FARC rebel organisation.

Investigators are also reportedly looking into four Spaniards, two Italians and a Dane who were identified on the computer of a slain FARC commander.

According to Colombia's El Tiempo newspaper, emails discovered on a computer belonging to former FARC commander Raul Reyes refer to an Australian contact known as Carlos Vlaudin.

At this stage little else is known of the Australian and the extent of his ties to the rebels.

The most prominent suspect in the global investigation is a Danish citizen who is reportedly tied to the Anncol news agency, which the FARC uses to distribute messages.

The investigation follows the arrest last week of a Spanish woman for her alleged ties to the FARC's Spanish cell.
