Tibetan protesters detained in Kathmandu

At least 80 Tibetan exiles have been detained in the Nepal capital, Kathmandu, while demonstrating outside the Chinese embassy.

The protesters tried to march towards the building waving flags of the Tibetan government-in-exile and shouting anti-China slogans.

Police quickly bundled the protesters into trucks and drove them to a detention centre.

Kathmandu has seen frequent anti-China protests since unrest erupted in Tibet in March, casting a shadow over the Olympics, which open this Friday.

Nepalese authorities have repeatedly said no anti-China activity will be allowed in its territory as they seek to preserve friendly ties with their northern neighbour.
