Australian brewer fined after worker's death
Updated
Australian beer brewing giant Fosters has been fined $US1.01 million over the death of a worker at its Melbourne factory in 2006.
Our reporter Sarah Farnsworth says 58-year-old Cuu Huynh died after being trapped in machinery while working on the bottling line.
Fosters pleaded guilty to failing to provide a safe workplace and properly train its workers.
In sentencing, Judge Jane Campton said Mr Huynh's death could have been prevented had the firm adequatley reduced the danger posed by the machine when another worker was injured in 2002.
Outside court the General Manager of the Abbotsford factory, Micheal Stoneman, said his heart went out to Mr Huynh's family.
"Please be ensured at Fosters we have done everything possible to ensure this will never happen again."
Since Mr Huynh's death the factory's machinery has been upgraded.
