Asia's primates being driven to extinction
Updated
Humanity's closest cousins - gorillas, orangutans and other primates - are dying out at an unprecedented rate, with some being eaten to extinction.
A new study by the International Conservation Union says Asian's primates are most at risk, with more than 70 percent of species classed as vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered.
In Vietnam and Cambodia, around 90 percent of the several dozen species found in the two countries are considered at risk of dying out.
The Conservation Union says as well as being hunted for food, monkeys, apes and other other primates are losing out to the burning and clearing of tropical forests, and the illegal trade in wildlife.
