Solomon Islands says it is optimistic of being included in New Zealand's seasonal labour scheme.

New Zealand has formal labour mobility agreements with a number of Pacific island states, including Tonga and Vanuatu.

A Solomon Islands delegation has just returned from talks with New Zealand authorities on the possibility of joining the scheme.

The delegation was led by acting Labour Commissioner, Josiah Manehia.

"This particular visit hopefully should pave the way for a more comprehensive and tangible agreement between the Solomon Islands government and the New Zealand government," he said.

"We are quite optimistic about possibilities of Solomon Islands to be included in the seasonal workers' program."
