Bangladesh extends former PM Hasina's parole
Updated
Bangladesh has extended the parole of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for a month so she can receive more medical treatment in the United States.
Sheikh Hasina's eight-week parole had been due to expire on Thursday, but it's now been extended until September the 7th.
She was arrested by the army-backed government a year ago on charges of graft and misuse of power while in office.
Meantime unofficial results from Monday's local elections showed her followers had won almost all the posts, in polls international observers have described as free and fair.
The government has welcomed the observers' assessment, saying it's a sign of Bangladesh's gradual return to democracy.
