Job boost likely from Guam military build-up
Updated
The upcoming US military build-up in Guam could require about 12,000 guest workers.
The Saipan Tribune reports visiting US military official, Lieutenant Colonel Rudy R. Kube, says the build-up could also require a further 5,000 local workers.
The Lieutenant Colonel says most of the new jobs will be in the construction sector, of which the Philippines is traditionally one of the main sources of labour.
About 8,000 U.S. Marines and their dependents are due to relocate to Guam from Okinawa, Japan from 2010 onwards.
