Child mortality rates lag in the Pacific

A new report shows child mortality rates are lagging in the Pacific.
UNICEF has examined the trends in child and maternal health in 37 countries across the Asia Pacific.
It shows that while child mortality rates have fallen in Pacific nations since 1990, many are unlikely achieve the UN's millenium development goal of reducing infant deaths by two thirds by 2015.
The Pacific countries with the highest child mortality rates are Papua New Guinea, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands and Solomon Islands.
The Pacific nations that are on track to meet the 2015 development goals are Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Fiji, Palau, and Niue.
