Australian PM prepares for Olympic trip
Updated
Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd leaves for China today, but his promise to raise human rights concerns while he's attending the Olympics has done little to appease supporters of Tibet.
Mr Rudd's trip will be short but hectic.
In Beijing he will meet Australian athletes, watch the opening ceremony, attend a state reception and watch some swimming and women's basketball.
He is also due to hold talks with the Chinese President and Premier, in which he has promised to raise human rights concerns.
Australian Greens Leader Bob Brown, has attacked Mr Rudd for agreeing to attend the Olympic opening ceremony despite the prime minister's promise to raise human rights concerns with Beijing.
"He should not have gone when the prospect of talks with the Dalai Lama on behalf of 7 million Tibetans and (President) Hu Jintao was simply put on the shelf," Mr Brown said.
Mr Rudd leaves China on Sunday for South Korea and Singapore before returning to Australia next Tuesday.
