US President George Bush has met the Thai Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej in Bangkok.
Mr Bush is in Thailand for two days, before heading for China to attend the Olympic opening ceremony.
At talks marking 175 years of diplomatic ties, Mr Bush and Mr Samak agreed to strengthen military and security cooperation, and to work more closely on law enforcement, education and science.
Mr Bush heaped praise on his Thai hosts, thanking them for their help in coordinating the international relief response for Burma after Cyclone Nargis struck in May.
"We're working together to help the people of Burma - we responded very quickly when Burma was struck by the terrible cyclone and I want to thank you very much for your leadership on that issue," he said.
"After all, yours was the place where much of the world's aid came to be distributed to the poor people there who were deeply affected by the storm. We want to see prosperity and freedom restored to Burma."
