PNG unions angered over planned bank closures

Papua New Guinea trade unionists have criticised two leading banks for threatening to close operations because of fears over robberies.
PNG's Bank South Pacific and rival Australia New Zealand Banking group threatened to withdraw their services after Bank South Pacific was robbed twice of nearly $US1 million in two months.
It now says it has received threats of another robbery at its Eastern Highlands and Sandaun province branches.
The bank says it has closed its three branches for an indefinite period.
Our reporter in Port Moresby, Firmin Nanol says trade unionists have criticised the banks threats, saying ordinary people will be hurt.
