Chinese officials prevent Guam governor interview
Updated
Chinese officials have prevented a Radio Australia journalist at the Beijing Olympic games from interviewing the governor of the American Pacific territory of Guam, Felix Camacho.
Radio Australia's reporter in Beijing, Tanya O'Shea, says officials stopped the interview about Guam's military buildup and trade endeavours in the South Pacific, saying Radio Australia must first apply for the interview through Chinese foreign affairs.
The governor had agreed to be interviewed by Radio Australia as he toured the Olympic Village.
Article six of the regulations on reporting activities in China by foreign journalists during the Beijing Olympic Games says foreign journalists need only obtain the consent of the individual.
Chinese foreign affairs sent a message through Guam's chef de mission apologising, saying the interview can be rearranged.
