Australian army reservists home from Solomon Islands
Updated
A group of 40 Army Reservists are being re -united with their families in Australia after a four-month tour in Solomon Islands.
The volunteer soldiers were part of a contingent of 100 from Queensland and have been working to help maintain peace in the Pacific Island nation.
Lieutenant Tom Hinds says with the Australian Defence Force committed to campaigns in Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world, the reservists played a key role.
"For the regular Army to also have to sustain the Solomon Islands would be very difficult, so the Army Reserve has been able to step in and provide a capability to essentially cover that operation in almost its entirety and take some of the pressure off the regular army."
