Papua New Guinean athletes have been welcomed into the Beijing Olympic village in China.

Chef de mission Syd Yates says Team PNG were earlier given a rousing welcome by their adopted school, Hui Long Guah, in the northern part of Beijing.

He says it was quite an experience, as the children performed and sang songs while waving the PNG and Chinese flags.

PNG guests at the Games include the minister for community development, Dame Carol Kidu, and the PNG ambassador to China, John Momis.

Dame Carol is also in Beijing for a community sports ministers conference.
