Solomons PM to face no-confidence vote

Updated August 8, 2008 05:02:02

Solomon Islands Prime Minister Derek Sikua is due to face a parliamentary vote of no confidence today.

The Opposition argues Dr Sikua's government has failed to govern properly since taking over last December.

The prime minister says he's confident he has the numbers to defeat the motion, and says his administration has achieved much in a short time.

Reports that the oppositon is planning to withdraw the motion have been denied by its mover, West Honiara MP Isaac Inoke.

He's told the Solomon Star newspaper the motion will go ahead as scheduled.
