UN human rights envoy meets Burma political prisoners
Updated
The new United Nations human rights envoy to Burma has met five prominent political prisoners on his first trip to the country.
But Tomas Ojea Quintana did not say whether he had met detained opposition leader and Nobel Peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been in prison or under house arrest for much of the past 19 years.
At the end of a four-day visit, the UN envoy expressed his appreciation to the authorities for their cooperation and said he had held constructive meetings with the foreign, labour and home affairs ministries, as well as the chief of police.
He will report on his visit to the forthcoming UN General Assembly.
