American pilot missing in Papua

Updated August 10, 2008 09:09:59

An American pilot is missing flying supplies to remote villages in Indonesia's Papua Province for a Christian humanitarian association.

A representative of the group says the pilot was flying for the Association of Mission Aviation when his small Pilatus Porter plane disappeared.

He says the pilot was delivering food to inaccessible communities when the plane went missing over remote mountains.

A search was launched, but had found no sign of the plane by nightfall.

The search is due to resume at first light this morning.

Police could not be reached to comment.
