Australia's foreign minister Stephen Smith is expected to discuss the death penalties faced by the Bali bombers and three members of the Bali Nine drug smuggling ring when he meets his Indonesian counterpart in Jakarta today.

Mr Smith says he will raise the plight of three members of the Bali Nine drug-smuggling ring remaining on death row in Indonesia.

But Stephen Smith says he will make no pleas to spare the lives of the three Bali bombers who are also awaiting execution here.

Mr Smith is also expected to discuss the 43 Papuan asylum-seekers who arrived in Australia in 2006 because his Indonesian counterpart, Hassan Wirajuda, has been reported saying that some of them now wish to return to Papua, where he says the situation has improved.
