Australia gives Indonesia $US2.21 billion

Australia is to give Indonesia around $US2.21 billion dollars in aid over the next five years.

Speaking in Jakarta, foreign ,inister Stephen Smith says the money will be spent on helping reduce the number of Indoneisans living in poverty.

More than $300 millionwill go towards new roads and bridges in eastern Indonesia.

There is also a project to help build or expand 2,000 Indonesian junior secondary schoools.

Mr Smith says Australian support is helping Indonesia achieve its goal of ensuring all its children receive nine years of basic education.
