Australian prime minister heads to Singapore
Updated
Australia's prime minister, Kevin Rudd, will visit Singapore for talks with political and business leaders over defence and trade issues.
The prime minister's first duty in Singapore will be to lay a wreath in remembrance of fallen Australian soldiers buried at Kranji war cemetery.
The rest of his day will be dedicated mainly to pursuing closer security, defence and economic ties with Singapore.
He will again lobby for support for his idea for an Asia Pacific community, warning that the alternative could be a splintering of the region, particularly between China and the United States.
While support for the idea has been muted, Mr Rudd says he has encountered no road blocks so far.
