Curfew for PNG police
Updated
A strict curfew has been imposed on all eight police barracks in the Papua New Guinea National Capital District.
The curfew is effective from six pm till eight am and will stay in place for three months.
A report in The National quotes NCD Superintendent Fred Yakasa as saying the curfew is a result of mounting threats against PNG police personnel.
He says it also follows claims that one of the recent Bank South Pacific robberies was planned and executed inside a PNG police barracks.
Superintendent Yakasa says he hopes the curfew will minimise unlawful activities carried out inside the barracks which he says have become a safe haven for criminals.
He says he has an obligation to the many hardworking, committed and dedicated police officers to ensure the integrity of the force and its barracks are maintained.
