West Papuan refugees keen to stay in Australia

West Papuan refugees in Australia are denying claims by Indonesia's Foreign Minister that some of them want to return home.

On Monday, Hassan Wirajuda said some of the 43 West Papuan refugees who fled to Australia by boat across the Torres Strain two years ago had indicated a desire to go back to Indonesia.

But the group's leader, Herman Wainggai, has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program the foreign minister is incorrect.

"Indonesia's foreign minister is deliberately misleading the international community by claiming any improvement in conditions inside our homeland in West Papua," he said.
