Cook Islands newspaper faces defamation suit

The Cook Islands only daily newspaper, is being sued for $US1.3 million for alleged defamation.

Two parties are claiming they were defamed by letters to the editor printed by the Cook Islands News.

Some of the letters were written under pseudonyms.

The legal action is being taken by hotelier Tata Crocombe, who owns and manages two four star hotels, and Lady Carla Davis, widow of former prime minister, Sir Tom Davis.
