Australia, PNG agree on advisors to Bouganville
Updated
Australian officials say plans to place advisors in Papua New Guinea's Autonomous Bougainville region has been agreed to by both governments.
Our reporter in PNG, Firmin Nanol, reports Australia's international aid agency, AusAid, has put forward a proposal to the Bougainville government.
It wants Australian officials to be placed in advisory roles in the Bougainville government administration.
Bougainville's trade minister Joseph Watawi, says there has been no consultation between the two governments.
The acting head of AusAid in PNG, Bill Costello says the plan to have eight additional advisers sent to Bougainville is not new.
Mr Costello says the positions have already been jointly agreed to by the Bougainville and Australian governments.
He says it comes under a review of AusAid's assistance under taken last year to help Bougainville build its capacity.
