Bali considers extraditing Australian man for child sex charge

Updated August 13, 2008 22:09:56

Prosecutors in Bali have asked a court to approve a request to extradite an Australian man to face child sex charges in Australia.

Our Indonesia correspondent Geoff Thompson reports Paul Francis Callahan told the court he would not fight the request.

Callahan, 47, appeared in Denpasar's District Court as prosecutors asked judges to approve a request from Australia that he be extradited to face charges relating to child sex offences alleged to have occurred in regional New South Wales six years ago.

Callahan has lived in Bali since 2003.

He manages a surfshop and has fathered a daughter with a local woman.

He told the court he "will surrender" to the request from Australia but said he had never been questioned by Australian police or been in trouble with the law in Australia or in Indonesia.

The court's decision is expected on Friday.
