Niue has been told that to grow its struggling tourism industry it needs to give visitors a cultural experience.

Auckland University of Technology is currently working with the Niue Government to develop a program to attract tourists to the tiny pacific nation.

Simon Milne from the AUT, has told the Pacific News service they are now getting preliminary results from a survey which shows tourists want a deeper experience than they currently get.

He says visitors want a glimpse into everyday life on Niue focussing on its natural attractions.
