WHO issues dengue warning for Fiji
Updated
The World Health Organisation has issued a dengue fever warning for Fiji, following a recent outbreak in neighbouring Pacific Island countries.
A Fiji Times report says in the past in the past six months, Tonga, New Caledonia and Kiribati have reported outbreaks of the mosquito-borne disease.
The World Health Organisation representative in the South Pacific, Doctor Chen Ken, says they are keeping a close eye on the situation in Fiji because dengue fever is usually not present in the Pacific nation.
He says a Health Ministry task force is also monitoring the situation and is advising people to be alert for symptoms and seek medical treatment if they become ill.
