US Marines stretched for training of Afghan troops

The US Marine Corps says it will not be able to increase military training teams needed to bolster security forces in Afghanistan unless it draws down in Iraq which has 24 thousand marines.

Marine Corps Commandant James Conway says as the Afghan Army grows, so will the need for advisory teams.

He says the only way to overcome the problem is for a portion of a Marine unit to embed alongside Afghan troops as advisors.

Commandant Conway's comments came as he wrapped up a visit to Afghanistan where some 35 hundred Marines are stationed.
