Disaster warning system needed: Australian scientists
Updated
Geoscientists say Australia is in urgent need of an early warning system to alert governments of impending environmental disasters.
The Geological Society of Australia has recommended the formation of an independent panel of experts to provide advice on dealing with problems like salinity and drought before their effects become irreversible.
The Society's President, Professor Peter Cawood, says an advisory panel would give governments a much earlier timeframe in which to actively respond to environmental crises.
