A Vietnamese diplomat, and three Chinese tourists, kidnapped at gunpoint while visiting the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, have escaped from their captors unharmed.
The Vietnamese Embassy advisor in Brasilia since 2006, Vu Thanh Nam, managed to escape from a hideout in slums north of the city.
Rio police earlier said they had no leads as they searched the area where the kidnapping took place around the huge statue of Jesus Christ which overlooks the city.
Mr Nam and the three other men were among groups of tourists visiting the famous site on Saturday when they were abducted by masked gunmen.
