Papua New Guinea's prime minister Michael Somare says he will not quit politics ahead of the country's next general election in 2012.
Radio Australia reporter, Firmin Nanol, reports Sir Michael has recently told a public seminar he will not quit politics soon.
He says he will not quit as the leader of his ruling National Alliance Party, unless a party convention removes him.
PNG's ombudsman referred Sir Michael to the public prosecutor.
It's alleged Sir Michael failed to submit and or filed incomplete personal financial returns to the watchdog.
His National Alliance Party met last month to decide the party leadership if and when Sir Michael faces a tribunal.
The prime minister's lawyers have appealed to stop his referral in court.
PNG's leadership code states a leader should step aside if he faces a tribunal for alleged wrong-doing in office.
