Koalas attacked, mutilated in Australia's northeast
Updated
An animal welfare group says it is disgusted by the latest attack on a koala in northeast Australia.
Anika Lehmann, from Caboolture Koala Care and Rescue in Queensland, says her staff found the mutilated koala dead on a Clear Mountain property.
A post-mortem examination revealed the koala died from being bashed repeatedly in the chest.
Earlier this month, a koala was bashed to death and a mother and its joey were severely injured at Kallangur.
Ms Lehmann says the attacks cannot be tolerated.
"Again unfortunately this is a koala that's been bashed to death and then after it's death they removed its leg," she said.
"I don't know what's the purpose of that - I think we should not tolerate this."
