East Timor looks to process gas from Greater Sunrise field

East Timor is working with Australia's largest oil and gas exploration and production company, Woodside Petroleum the different ways of processing gas from its Greater Sunrise field.

Our reporter in Canberra, Michael Cavanagh says Woodside has raised the possibility that gas from East Timor's Greater Sunrise field could be piped to Darwin for processing or the operation be carried out on a floating liquefied natural gas plant operating in the East Timor Sea.

The firm has concerns that piping the gas to East Timor for processing is the riskiest. East Timor's Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao who is in Australia has met company officials.

"We'll look to the technical and commercial viabilities. After that we accept any decision."

Woodside has just over a 33 per cent holding in Sunrise.
